Transgender man leads 'Men's Health' cover contest in popular votes

A transgender man is leading in popular votes for the 2015 Men's Health cover contest.
Aydian Dowling, a video blogger, activist and the creator of a clothing line called Point 5cc, has more than 46,000 votes as of Monday afternoon.
If he wins the contest, which is open for entries until June 21, his photo will appear on the cover of the magazine's November issue.
"I maintain a healthy lifestyle by making sure my life is in a balance," Dowling wrote on his contest entry post. "As a Transgender Male, having a healthy body and mind is my ultimate goal to find peace within my soul."

While Dowling is clearly in the lead with reader votes (he's ahead by more than 30,000) it doesn't necessarily mean his image will grace the cover.
Judges for the annual contest, now in its second year, select a winner from entries based on a number of criteria including fitness, professional success, healthy lifestyle and how much they give back to their community. The public votes make up 10% of the final ranking, according to the contest rules.

"We are excited that the Ultimate Men's Health Guy contest is resonating with so many people. Men's Health is a profound agent of positive change in the lives of all men. We can't wait to see how Aydian finishes with the reader vote -- an important piece of the overall criteria in the contest," Men's Health magazine told USA TODAY Network in a statement.
