Ronald Reagan Misrepresents Socialism

Alan: It is doubtful that this quote is correctly attributed to Reagan.
In any event it is not an accurate assessment of socialists or socialism.
Soviet communism, yes.
But not socialism.

"Socialism is an economic system where the ways of making money (factories, offices, etc.) are owned by a society as a whole, meaning the value made belongs to everyone in that society, instead of a small group of private owners... Socialists believe that everything in society is made by the cooperative efforts of the people."

Alan: It is often said that the followers of  Welsh utopian-industrialist Robert Owen were the first humans to be called socialists. In light of the above quotation, it is notable that Owen himself was a dreamer par excellence who paid more attention to "the spirit" than the overwhelming majority of Wall Street capitalists.
