I think Jerry Brown is a leading candidate for "Best, Most Effective Politician In America."
When Brown ran for the presidency in 1982, he was called "Mr. Moonbeam" because The System had to impugn/trash/marginalize anyone who would challenge -- and perhaps overturn -- that system, replacing it with a new, more just (and more functional) politics.
Bucky Fuller was "onto something" when he said that "the most idealistic is the realistically most practical."
Bucky reminds me of Jesus' enjoinder: "Seek first the Kingdom of God and God's justice and all necessary things will be given to you." (Although my translation of this passage from Matthew 6 does not correspond literally to any of the "official" versions, it is faithful to the original and more readily intelligible.)
